Get your car road trip ready!

Tata's Festive Season Driving

It’s that time of year again; Christmas decorations are strewn across shopping centres and muffled versions of Jingle Bells play in grocery stores and elevators. Those lucky enough to be escaping the big smoke, let us help you prepare for road trips to nearby destinations, or for a cross-country adventure.

No matter the distance, it’s important to ensure your car is roadworthy and ready for the haul:

Check your fluids

Don’t wait for your dashboard to light up like a Christmas tree before checking your fluids. Make sure your oil, coolant, brake fluid and water levels are filled to the brim before any road trip, to avoid an accident or breaking down.

Battery check

Check your battery to make sure it’s strong and that it has clean terminals. If you don’t want to take your car in, you can clean it at home. Mix one tablespoon of baking soda with one cup of boiling water, grab an old toothbrush and scrub away!

Inspect your tyres

This doesn’t just mean having them pumped up with air or nitrogen before your road trip. It’s important to have your tyres checked for any holes or nails that may have gone unnoticed, and to check if there’s a good amount of tread left.

Got a spare?

Knowing where your spare tyre is kept will save you some time, should you get a puncture. Make sure that it’s in good condition – doing the necessary checks that you would with your normal tyres – and check that you have a jack that still works.

Electrical equipment

Make sure your hooter works, all the lights (carrying a few extra bulbs is always a good idea) and that your windscreen wipers are fully functional. Check that both your aircon and heater is working and that your rear-view and side mirrors aren’t cracked.

An emergency kit

It’s always a good idea to have an emergency kit in case of, well, an emergency. Some of the items we suggest packing? A basic tool kit, jumper wires, tyre sealant, an emergency triangle, a torch and a basic first aid kit. Throw in a few snacks for good measure as well!

For everything else?

There’s TATA Touch – from free-towing and battery jump-start services, to emergency fuel delivery and a car key lockout service – we’ve got you covered. After all, it’s not always about the destination, but the journey that counts most!
